Ways to Celebrate National Take a Hike Day

Friday, November 17th marks National Take a Hike Day. With hundreds of thousands of trails in the USA, why not get to one near you and take advantage? Not only is hiking a fun activity, it is great for your health. Hiking lowers your risk of heart disease, improves your blood sugar and blood pressure, strengthens your core, improves your balance, and is proven to boost your mood.

Hiking comes in all shapes and sizes, so you can find the perfect one to fit your mood that day. You have the option to go to a short trail near you and walk for about an hour. National Take a Hike Day could also be your inspiration to start that 2 day long-distance hike you’ve always dreamed of.

You could also pile your kids in the car and walk along the beach. You could walk along the busy city streets. You could walk to the store instead of driving. You could take your dog out for a nice long walk. You could meet up with someone you don’t really like and tell them to take a hike!
